William Dobron Sr. of Point Pleasant, died on the family farm (where he was born) on Aug. 27, 2013, with his wife, Florence. He was 83 years old.
Will was the son of the late Mathew Dobron and Julia Pondelik Dobron.
They celebrated 59 years of marriage in June. Will and Florence were only separated while he served in the Korean War, as a medic stationed in Europe.
Will grew up on the farm and attended the River Hill Schoolhouse. Will never left his hometown, building a house for himself and the love of his life, Florence, on a corner of the property. One of seven children, he left school in eighth grade to work the farm and in the family business with his father and brothers. Will's father had started a business of wire design and wholesale florist supplies, which they marketed through eastern and central Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Some of their wire design pieces were featured in the Philadelphia Flower Show. Will and his brothers extended the business to M. Dobron and Sons, Excavating. Will's son, Bill, later joined the business.
Will and Flossy were both members of Point Pleasant Fire Company. Will joined at the age of 16 and actively served for over 50 years and Flossy was a contributing member for over 50 years
Will suffered a heart attack at the age of 38 while fighting a house fire. He returned to active firefighting for 30 years after that, until his health no longer permitted. Will served the company as assistant chief for 20 years, chief for seven years and trustee for 20 years. He was an integral member of the Building Committee, planning and constructing the new firehouse which opened in 1991. Will and fellow chief, Lance Schneider, developed the cable rescue system used by the fire company at High Rocks in Ralph Stover State Park. Will was also a member of the Orpheus Masonic Lodge of Stockton, N.J.
Will loved his family and extended family and never wanted to leave Ferry Road in Point Pleasant. He is survived by his children, Charmaine Rufh (Robert) of Port Jervis, N.Y., Tammy Stever (Brent) of Bedminster, and William Dobron Jr. (Maryfrances Sharp) of Point Pleasant. He is also survived by three grandchildren, William Dobron III, Matthew Dobron, and Abigail Stever; and sisters in-law, Helen Dobron, Marguerite Feiler, Evelyn Hefflefinger, and Edith Baker. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Irene Lang, Mary Polka, Ann Stoll, Ellen Grexa; and brothers, Joseph and Mathew Dobron.
Will was fiercely independent and loved his wife. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Point Pleasant Fire Company, P.O. Box 1, Point Pleasant, Pa. 18950 or the Alzheimer's Association Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market St., Suite 102, Philadelphia Pa. 19106.
